“Crafting provocative portraits means gracefully and creatively capturing fleeting moments in time to make the invisible visible, and engage us on a storytelling journey, while unravelling the unique qualities of the subject to the viewers.”

CUBA LIBRE 2019

SCOTIABANK CONTACT PHOTOGRAPHY FESTIVAL 2019

Torres’ selection represents the artists vision and experience with Cuba in 2018. Visiting for the first time, it was the most indelible impression made upon this photographer. For the challenges Cubans face, one can’t help but see the valour and hope with which the people faced daily life with so much warmth, art, music and a simple “alegria de vivir” !

2019 also commemorates Havana’s 500th anniversary, so in this collection, Torres aims to share the magic and passion of this culture amidst historic change and always bravely embracing bold new tomorrows.

URBAN MATADOR

SCOTIABANK CONTACT PHOTOGRAPHY FESTIVAL 2018

The Urban Matador – Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival 2018 biographical portrait series stands as a bold metaphor for the dance of life, like a Paso Doble frozen in time. Torres captures the essence of professional dancer Brian Torner’s artistic journey coming full circle.

The subtle, sunlit Toronto backdrop offers a warm contrast to the bold, flowing cape of a passionate dancer, whose courage and drive defy all obstacles to manoeuvre through life’s adversity with powerful dynamism, coupled with intent, focus, bravura and authenticity.

GEISHA MAJIKU

ART OF FOOD EXHIBIT – URBAN GALLERY 2014

Urban Catering, who co-owned the Urban Gallery, celebrated their 12th Anniversary, and their theme thus was “The Art of Food“. To suit the sensual nature of food, Torres chose to use a Japanese Geisha food theme to this very well received exhibit.
